Starting RB Willie Parker is doubtful to play Sunday against the Chargers, so the Steelers promoted rookie RB Isaac Redman from the practice squad to the active roster and released veteran DE Nick Eason.
Redman was the star of Pittsburgh’s preseason, rushing for 145 yards and three touchdowns in four games. He gives the Steelers depth behind second-year RB Rashard Mendenhall, who’s expected to start in Parker’s place, and six-year veteran Mewelde Moore, the third-down back.
Parker suffered a toe injury during last week’s loss to the Bengals and didn’t practice all week.
Eason, who entered the NFL in 2003 with the Broncos, joined the Steelers in 2007 and had 31 tackles in 31 games. He was inactive for all three games this season.
