Eagles QB Kolb to start vs. Saints with McNabb hurt

Donovan McNabb made good progress this week while coming back from a broken rib, but he isn’t yet ready to play, league sources told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, so Kevin Kolb will be Eagles’ starting QB in their Sunday home opener against the Saints.

The Giants will also be without the services of DE Chris Canty, as reported by NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. Canty strained his calf during practice on Wednesday and will miss a game for the first time in his five-year NFL career.

Bucs WR Bryant doubtful to play vs. Bills

Buccaneers WR Antonio Bryant, who’s still recovering from offseason knee surgery, is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Bills.

Chiefs QB Cassel questionable vs. Raiders

Chiefs QB Matt Cassel will be a game-time decision for the second consecutive week. Cassel, who’s nursing a sprained left knee, is officially listed as questionable for the Chiefs’ matchup with the AFC West rival Raiders.

Eagles QB McNabb doubtful to play vs. Saints

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb (fractured rib) hasn’t been completely ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Saints. He’s officially listed as doubtful on Philadelphia’s injury report and hasn’t been able to practice all week. Kevin Kolb would start at QB if McNabb isn’t able to go.

Knee injury to sideline Titans TE Scaife vs. Texans

Bo Scaife, the Titans’ leading receiver last season, will be sidelined in Week 2, the result of a knee injury suffered on what the tight end described as a “cheap shot” from Steelers LB Jerome Harrison in Week 1. Scaife caught five passes for 48 yards in that game.

Talking smack … big deal

I’m always amazed at the ridiculous emphasis placed on “trash talking.” Trash talking has been a part of the fabric of sports. I direct my ire at the media, who make such comments out to be a violation of some sacred trust of civility. In actuality, trash talking is a time honored tradition whose sanctity has been violated by players being forced to talk to the media.
