As if the Saints’ backfield situation wasn’t already enough of a headache for fantasy owners, it looks like another runner is now in the mix for carries.
Lynell Hamilton could play a bigger role in Sunday’s game against the Bills if Mike Bell (knee) is inactive, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Bell wasn’t able to practice Wednesday, according to the NFL’s official injury report.
Hamilton shared time with Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush in the first-team offense at practice.
This is shocking news in fantasy circles, as most owners have never even heard of Hamilton, who was an undrafted free agent out of San Diego State.
Hamilton was inactive in last week’s win over the Eagles. He has never even carried the football in an NFL regular-season game.
This is a situation that fantasy leaguers need to watch. Thomas hasn’t played much because of an injured knee, but he was in line for more carries with Bell injured. If coach Sean Payton uses Hamilton and Bush along with Thomas, however, this backfield could become a confusing mess.
For now, don’t rush out to pick up Hamilton off the waiver wire.
