Passing along some injury updates out of Philadelphia, where several Eagles starters sustained injuries during a 48-22 loss to the Saints.
Eagles coach Andy Reid confirmed injuries to CB Asante Samuel (stinger), RB Brian Westbrook (ankle), DB Dimitri Patterson (hand fracture) and WR DeSean Jackson (groin strain) in his postgame press conference.
Reid indicated that the injuries to Westbrook and Jackson weren’t serious and said he didn’t believe Westbrook’s ailment was a high ankle sprain. Westbrook, who rushed for 52 yards on 13 carries, told reporters he wasn’t able to cut effectively after sustaining the injury and hopes to play next week.
“It’s a little sore,” Westbrook said. “I think I probably tweaked it a little bit, probably in the third quarter at some point. Right now it’s a little tender and sore.”
No update was given on Samuel, who left the game during the first half with a quad injury and then again during the fourth quarter when he sustained the stinger while trying to make a tackle.
Reid said Patterson would have surgery on Monday or Tuesday.
