Cassel set to make debut for Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel, who suffered a sprained left knee during the third preseason game and missed Week 1, is active for the Chiefs today against the Oakland Raiders.

Backup QB Brodie Croyle, who threw for 177 yards and two TDs in the Chiefs’ loss to the Ravens, will be the No. 2 behind Cassel.

Cassel, who was aquired by the Chiefs in an offseason trade with the Patriots, was a late scratch before last week’s loss to the Ravens. He practiced on a limited basis this week with a brace on his left knee, and was officially listed as questionable on the injury report.

Also listed as inactive for the Chiefs:  WR Terrance Copper, QB Matt Gutierrez, CB Ricardo Coclough, RB Jamaal Charles, C/G Andy Alleman, TE Brad Cottam and LB Pierre Walters. Tyler Thigpen is the team’s third QB.

There were no surprises on the inactives for the Raiders: WR Johnnie Lee Higgins, RB Justin Fargas, OT Khalif Barnes, G Paul McQuistan, WR Chaz Schilens, TE Brandon Myers and WR Nick Miller. Charlie Frye is liste as the team’s third QB.
