Denver Broncos QB Kyle Orton said earlier in the week he’s optimistic he’ll play in the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals despite a dislocated right index finger on his throwing hand.
Friday, Orton was listed as questionable on the Broncos’ injury report, along with backup QB Chris Simms, who practiced on a limited basis all week with an ankle injury. If Orton or Simms can’t go, the Broncos will be down to QB Tom Brandstater. The rookie is currently the only healthy QB on the team’s roster.
Denver may also be without the services of WR Jabar Gaffney (finger) and rookie RB Knowshon Moreno (knee), both of whom practiced on a limited basis throughout the week. On the defensive front, safety Brian Dawkins is listed as probable (hand) and is expected to play.
For the Bengals, QB Carson Palmer should be ready to go despite an injured ankle. He is listed as probable, along with safety Roy Williams (thigh) and WR Chris Henry (thigh).
