Ex-Browns DT Smith suspended for four games

Free-agent DT Shaun Smith received a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s steroids policy, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.

Teams were notified of Smith’s suspension via the waiver wire, the source said.

Smith had played for the Browns the last two seasons but was released Aug. 8. He landed with the Lions three days later, but he didn’t make it past the final cuts Saturday.

Smith, a five-year veteran, has 144 tackles and two sacks in his NFL career.
