Steelers LB Timmons doubtful to play vs. Titans

Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons didn’t practice for the third consecutive day because of an ankle injury and is listed as doubtful to play in Thursday night’s season opener against the Titans.

Keyaron Fox, a sixth-year NFL veteran, is expected to replace Timmons for Pittsburgh, which enters the game otherwise healthy. Third-string QB Dennis Dixon, who’s nursing an injury in his throwing shoulder, is the only other Steelers player listed on the team’s injury report. He is probable.

Titans WR Nate Washington, an ex-Steeler who left as a free agent during the offseason, is questionable to play against his former team after being limited in three consecutive practices because of a hamstring injury. Two rookies — TE Jared Cook (ankle) and CB Ryan Mouton (ankle) — also are questionable, and punter Craig Hentrich (back) is probable.

A source with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora that it would “take a miracle” for Cook to play against the Steelers.
