Free agent wide receiver Matt Jones was not signed by the Titans this week, but considering how late in the preseason it was, the fact the team was playing that night — and that signing Jones then would have hurt their roster options — and the fact they were already facing cuts, that’s not a surprise.

Jones has unique size and speed and has had off-field issues, but I would expect to see him somewhere in the next few weeks, and Tennessee remains an option. Jones had an excellent workout there and took a physical, according to sources. His agent, Dave Butz, remains confident he will be back in the NFL soon.

“His workout could not have gone better,” Butz said. ”Matt caught everything that was thrown at him. He’s in great shape and ready to play.”

The former first-round pick worked out daily the past few months and also went to receiver camps to hone his route running, which had been an issue in the past as he converted from college quarterback to pro receiver.
