Eagles use exemption to keep Vick off 53-man roster

Recently reinstated QB Michael Vick will not be on the Eagles’ 53-man roster to open the season, with the team opting to use an exemption, NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports.

Vick can’t practice until he’s eligible to return in Week 3. However, he can participate in meetings and do some individual drills.

The Eagles have three quarterbacks, including veteran A.J. Feeley, who was being shopped on the trade market. The team also kept seven wide receivers, a high number, but it didn’t want to give away a solid player. As injuries develop elsewhere, the Eagles might trade one later.

The most notable players to be cut in Philadelphia were DT Dan Klecko, who played in all 16 games last season, and RB Lorenzo Booker, a third-year pro likely deemed expendable with the emergence of first-round draft pick LeSean McCoy.
