Weight clause was inserted in Smith’s contract

Clauses in Andre Smith‘s contract that can lower his base salaries based on him not meeting weight criteria were inserted just before the rookie signed with the Bengals, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Following a 32-day holdout, Smith reported 30 pounds overweight and the Bengals worked out the language regarding the weight clause with Smith before he signed the four-year deal. On Tuesday, Smith suffered a stress fracture in his left foot, an injury that is expected to keep him from practicing for two weeks.
