Rookie RB Shonn Greene, who’s expected to spell Thomas Jones and Leon Washington in the Jets’ running game, could miss the rest of the preseason because of rib cartilage damage, coach Rex Ryan said.
“He will definitely be a guy that won’t play this week, and he might not play the next week,” Ryan said of Greene. “We’ll see how it is. There is nothing broken, but there are some cartilage issues there.
“He had a real tough time breathing after the game (Monday night against the Ravens), so we checked him out to see if his ribs were broken, but they weren’t. He’s just really sore, and some guys can bounce back quicker than others, but we’ll see. Being conservative, I’m not so sure he’ll play in anymore of the preseason games.”
Greene, a third-round draft pick out of Iowa, had 50 yards on 11 carries in two preseason games. Most of that production came in the opener against the Rams, when he gained 45 yards on nine carries in the Jets’ 23-20 loss.
