Waiting for the skies to clear here at M&T Bank Stadium, where the Ravens will host the Redskins tonight.

Figured I’d post a few things here now and will blog live from the game as well (at least for the first half). Friday, it’s back on the road, where I’ll report from the Panthers’ camp.

Hearing that Michael Vick could have himself a team by the end of the week. Once teams play their first game, we could have closure on this one.

Very interested to see how Ravens RB Ray Rice, QB Troy Smith and LB Paul Kruger fare. Rice is set to start, and Smith is vying for a bigger role and to solidify the No. 2 QB role. Kruger, a 2009 second-round draft pick, could start as well, with Terrell Suggs still out with an ankle problem.

For the Redskins, someone better step up soon and show he could possibly, maybe, impersonate a right guard and right tackle as we get closer to September. Those woes threaten to undermine the gains made this offseason. Also interested to see if local cult hero, No. 3 QB Colt Brennan, continues to make advances on Todd Collins‘ role as the backup passer.

Free-agent QB Cleo Lemon is still in contact with some teams. Most teams will take a good hard look at their roster following the preseason openers, and Buffalo, Chicago and New Orleans could be viable options should their backups struggle.

Free-agent LB Khary Campbell, a special-teams stalwart and one of the truly good people in this game, is scheduled to work out in Houston on Sunday, according to a league source.

The Saints will be evaluating their linebackers very closely after their preseason opener. The club could opt to sign Derrick Brooks or Derek Smith on Saturday, telling those free agents they would get back to them following their workouts Wednesday.

Not hearing any signs of progress with the many unsigned draft picks. Will be checking in on that throughout the night as well.

Oh, and the sun is now shining brilliantly above us. Looks like it might be a perfect night for football.
