CANTON, Ohio — Some Hall of Famers are always working. Ozzie Newsome, legendary tight end and accomplished general manager of the Baltimore Ravens, swung over to the green room area here off to the side of the stage where the Hall of Famers sit at Fawcett Stadium.
The legends get a break to grab a water and sandwich between speeches, and Newsome hit me up for an update on any injuries or news around the league.
At this point in the season, that’s where the focus is. Newsome said he’s enjoying himself in Canton, but is always uneasy being away from his team.
“I make that call every night to see if anyone got hurt, and then after that I’m okay,” Newsome said.
With the Ravens opening their preseason schedule Thursday, Newsome felt he could get away for a quick trip here, particularly with former Raven Rod Woodson entering the Hall, someone who helped him win a Super Bowl ring.
