Well, it’s fast and furious at this point in terms of negotiations draft picks in the top rounds, as the signings continue to come in. And each new deal gives those remaining un-signed picks something else to evaluate, and in many cases expedites the process for other clubs and players.
Four first-rounders have signed at this point, but I’d imagine that number will at least double over the next few days. The bulk of them will likely be done by this time next week. One player we’ve been keeping an eye on is Aaron Maybin, Buffalo’s top pick. Progress has been very slow there, and with the Bills already one weekend into camp I would not be surprised if we are still talking about Maybin’s absence at this point next week.
The Bills have two other top picks to sign — the team’s other first-rounder, Eric Wood, and second-round pick Jairus Byrd. Neither deal appeared imminent as of this afternoon. The Bills did get a second-rounder signed this afternoon, however, when Andy Levitre agreed to a four-year deal. He is driving to camp right now, according to a source, and could report in an hour or so, aiming to be on the field Monday.
Could be another deal or two coming down tonight, so stay tuned here, on twitter (@jasonlacanfora) for updates. Hope you guys are having a great weekend.
