David Climer of the Tennessean examines Vince Young‘s relationship with Steve McNair, saying the former Titans and Ravens quarterback was more than a mentor to Young. Climer writes:
Their relationship stemmed from a meeting years ago when McNair, then quarterbacking a franchise known as the Houston Oilers, was summoned to counsel Young. The two developed a lasting bond.
Climer also wonders what might have been if McNair had the opportunity to follow through on discussions with Titans coach Jeff Fisher about helping out at this summer’s training camp.
Some other quick hits from around the web:
- The Detroit News reports that former Titans DT and free agent John Thornton has turned down an offer to join former Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in Detroit.
- Giants CB Kevin Dockery told the Newark Star-Ledger that he has set his goal on five interceptions this season, including three for touchdowns.
- Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official Web site writes that a long-term deal between the team and franchised linebacker Karlos Dansby is unlikely before Wednesday’s deadline.
- And for something completely different, The New York Times contributor KC Joyner lists the reasons why he thinks Jay Cutler is not the answer for the Chicago Bears.
