Colts owner Jim Irsay told the Indianapolis Star that former assistant coaches Tom Moore and Howard Mudd will return to the team as consultants in August:
- “This was Jim Caldwell‘s call ultimately,” Irsay said. “Bill (Polian, team president) and I are there to support the head coach, and we do. I asked Jim what he wanted, and he wanted to see these guys come back and be part of things. Everything is good.”
Mudd, 67, and Moore, 70, retired in May, reportedly because of prospective changes in retirement benefits. While the long-time assistants’ titles will change (Mudd was offensive line coach; Moore served as offensive coordinator), Irsay said their duties will be similar to what they did in the past.
