It’s hard to imagine which is more shocking — Patriots QB Tom Brady training with Cardinals QB Matt Leinart, or that the workouts were held at UCLA.
Brady and Leinart have a lot in common, and you can imagine them talking about reading defenses, footwork and parenting. So the image of Leinart training at UCLA — a school he tormented for years as USC’s quarterback — had to be the bigger shock, especially for the current Bruins players who recently stumbled upon him on their practice field.
Leinart told reporters that it felt a little strange working out in Westwood (via the Arizona Republic):
- “I figured if I’m running with him (Brady), he can do whatever,” Leinart said, laughing. “It was funny, we were out there one day, just me and him, and their whole team comes out. They were in off-season conditioning.
- “I almost wanted to wear my ‘SC jacket, but that would have been real disrespectful.”
Leinart’s appearance at UCLA shouldn’t have come as too big of a surprise. His former offensive coordinator at USC, Norm Chow, now holds that job at UCLA.
