Recent reports have linked the New Orleans Saints and free-agent RB Edgerrin James.
Regarding the possibility of signing James, Saints GM Mickey Loomis told NFL.com’s Steve Wyche, “We’ve looked into it, and we’re going to look into it some more. … The price has to be right because we’re tight against the (salary cap).”
But Saints coach Sean Payton sounded pretty confident in RB Pierre Thomas. Asked whether there was urgency to add another piece to the backfield, Payton, in a nod to Thomas, said this to the Baton Rouge Advocate:
- “Not right now,” Payton said. “I know a lot has been written about that but I think the guy we’re looking for may already be in the building.”

The Saints released RB Deuce McAllister in February and Reggie Bush is coming off microfracture surgery.
