A No. 4 on the field, but no Favre sighting

On another day of staking out Oak Grove High School football practices, there was no sign of Brett Favre on Tuesday, but still enough to keep my attention.

There was a No. 4 on the field today, but it wasn’t whom you would think. The starting quarterback for Oak Grove also wears No. 4, shockingly, and his name is … I kid you not … Jim McMahon. Although he does go by “James.” It also should be noted that Steve McNair Jr., the son of the former Oilers/Titans and Ravens QB, is a star wide receiver for Oak Grove.

As for Favre, it looks like he will return to this field at some point.┬áSpeaking with Oak Grove coach Nevil Barr at the end of practice, he was very careful with his words and wouldn’t predict or speculate on Favre’s future. But Barr did offer me this: “He’ll be out here again.”

If for no other reason than Favre loves throwing the football around with the high school players.

I did ask Barr about Favre’s arm strength in light of the torn biceps tendon, and he had a simple answer.

“He’s Brett Favre,” Barr said.
