Falcons, WR White working on contract extension

The Falcons and WR Roddy White have begun negotiating a contract extension, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

White, a four-year NFL veteran, made the Pro Bowl for the first time last season after hauling in 88 receptions for 1,382 yards and seven touchdowns.

White said he’d like to have the contract situation resolved by the time the Falcons open the season. However, White told the Journal-Constitution that there’s no real hurry, even though he’s entering the final year of his current deal:

“Whenever it happens, it happens,” White said. “We’ll just wait around for it.”

White hasn’t said whether or not he’d hold out of training camp without a new contract, but he has been taking part in offseason workouts and participated fully in the Falcons’ minicamp to stay sharp:

“As far as the tempo, we kept it pretty high,” White said. “I felt pretty good, getting back out there and getting on the field.”

Under his current contract, White is scheduled to earn $2.28 million next season.
