Falcons’ first-round pick Jerry leaves practice injured

The Falcons’ first-round draft pick, DT Peria Jerry, left practice on Saturday due to a knee injury, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Falcons coach Mike Smith didn’t have any further information about the injury.

“He got banged up,” Smith said. “We don’t know anything about it. He bumped knees and we’ll know something by the end of the day. They took him in the training room to ice him.”

Jerry, who attended college at Mississippi, was taken No. 24 overall by the Falcons in the NFL Draft.

Jerry has a history of injuries. He could not complete agility drills during the NFL Combine and was limited at his pro day due to a hamstring injury. At Ole Miss, he missed one game during the 2008 season and four games in each of the ’06, ’05 and ’04 seasons.
