The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that defensive end John Abraham and kicker Jason Elam were held out of practice Friday to start the Falcons’ first minicamp.
“We felt they weren’t 100 percent ready to go, so we made a decision to limit those guys today,” said Falcons coach Mike Smith. “Abe is leftover from the rigors of the 16-game season. He had a number of ailments.”
Smith would not elaborate on what was bothering either player. Abraham suffered from neck and shoulder ailments last season, while Elam was bothered by a hip injury. Both Abraham and Elam played in all 16 regular-season games and the Falcons’ lone playoff contest last season.
