Saints’ Young moving from cornerback to free safety

Usama Young was a man without a position after the Saints selected Ohio State CB Malcolm Jenkins 14th overall in the NFL draft and signed free agent CB Jabari Greer. But not any longer. The Times Picayune reports that Young will move to free safety — a position change he welcomes.
Young is expected to compete with free-agent pickups Darren Sharper and Pierson Prioleau, who played for new Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in Jacksonville, Washington and Buffalo. But Young is ready for the move, he told the Times-Picayune:
- “I’m learning a lot from Darren Sharper and taking as much information from him as possible,” said Young. “I’m picking his brain every day, trying to watch film with him and ask him what he looks at.
- “I’m excited to get this thing going. It’s going to be a lot in the transition, but it’s a little less of a transition because I can start off on a fresh, clean slate. It’s a whole other defensive scheme under Coach Williams. It’s a whole other terminology. Everybody is learning on the job.”
