Steelers, LB Harrison nearing contract extension

James Harrison and the Pittsburgh Steelers are closing in on a contract extension that could be finalized as early as Monday, according to Bill Parise, the agent for the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Parise says all parties involved agreed to get past the Easter holiday before consummating the deal.

Bills DB Whitner tasered, arrested in Cleveland

Cleveland police confirmed to Buffalo, N.Y., television station WIVB that Bills DB Donte Whitner was tasered and arrested on suspicion of aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest early Saturday morning.

Leftwich receives two-year contract offer from Steelers

Byron Leftwich recently visited the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the quarterback walked away without a deal from either team. However, The Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reports that the Steelers issued a two-year contract offer to Leftwich, who performed admirably as Ben Roethlisberger’s backup last season, most notably playing the entire second half in a victory over the Redskins on Monday Night Football.

Bears duo give gift from the heart

Bears defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, a native of Nigeria, read a newspaper story about a 4-year-old Nigerian girl who was scheduled to have heart surgery in Austin, Texas. The only catch?
