The people’s draft champion: Aaron Curry

Matthew Stafford, Jason Smith and Tyson Jackson might wind up being great football players, but here in Radio City Music Hall, the crowd is clearly behind Aaron Curry.
The linebacker has become a fan favorite, despite having played in relative anonymity at Wake Forest. Several fans of a variety of teams told me prior to the start of the draft that they were hoping their favorite club took Curry.
After Stafford was serenaded with vociferous boos and chants of “overrated,” and both Smith and Jackson were taken amid relative lifeless response by the fans in attendance, Curry drew loud applause when the Seahawks drafted him at No. 4. This, despite the fact that only a few Seahawks fans were in attendance.
Mark Sanchez drew a huge response from the crowd here when the Jets traded up to take him at No. 5, but unlike with Curry, there was a mix of positive and negative. Jets fans cheered wildly, with many of the remaining fans attempting to counter-balance them with taunts.
Things have definitely picked up here among the excited masses in Radio City.
