Chiefs, QB Cassel agree on six-year deal

The Kansas City Chiefs and QB Matt Cassel have reached an agreement on a new six-year deal, NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports.

Complete financial details weren’t immediately known, but the deal will include $36 million in guaranteed money. That’s $5.7 million less than Matthew Stafford, who hasn’t taken an NFL snap, will receive in guaranteed money from the Detroit Lions as the No. 1 draft pick.

Cassel led the New England Patriots to an 11-5 record in 2008 after Tom Brady was lost for the season in the opener. Cassel completed 327 of 516 passes for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. The Patriots placed the franchise tag on Cassel and then traded him to the Chiefs, along with LB Mike Vrabel, on Feb. 28 for a second-round draft choice.

The Chiefs told NFL Network’s Randy Moss that they have no comment at this time.
