General manager Scot McCloughan said seven teams ahead of his 49ers in this weekend’s draft have called and said they have no problem trading down, The Sacramento Bee reports. The 49ers currently have the 10th overall pick in the draft.
McCloughan said the 49ers also would consider trading down and wouldn’t try to move up in the draft. He went on to say that USC QB Mark Sanchez and Alabama OT Andre Smith would be the pivotal players in the draft.
Three of NFL.com’s draft experts have the 49ers taking Sanchez with the No. 10 pick. Pat Kirwan has the Jaguars selecting Sanchez at No. 8. Teams looking to move up to take Sanchez, like the Jets, likely would have to move into the top 10 to have a crack at the QB.
McCloughan also fueled the Matthew Stafford to the Lions rumors, according to The Bee:
- “Word on the street is, he is (the pick). They’re negotiating with him, I know that.”
