Clemens the early leader in Jets’ QB competition?

The New York Jets have held just two days of voluntary minicamp practices, but the New York media is already declaring Kellen Clemens as the early leader over Brett Ratliff in the competition to be the starting quarterback.

Jets coach Rex Ryan didn’t hide his early impressions of Clemens from the New York Daily News:

“I thought he looked outstanding,” Ryan said of Clemens. “He did decent the first day, but I really like how he took charge of the offense and really brought that unit out. They had a lot of spark. He made good decisions and showed poise.”

In the meantime, speculation continues over the Jets selecting a quarterback with their first pick in next weekend’s NFL Draft. The Daily NewsRich Cimini speculates that the Jets are strongly considering either USC’s Mark Sanchez or Kansas State’s Josh Freeman with the 17th pick.
