The NFL has changed the scheduled start time for the Jets’ Week 3 home game against the Titans to 1 p.m. ET because Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, begins at sundown on Sept. 27. The game originally was scheduled for 4:15 p.m. ET, drawing complaints from the Jets, who suggested the kickoff time change.
As a result of the change, the Giants’ game at Tampa Bay and the Titans-Jets contest will be televised head-to-head on different networks in the New York market.
“By changing the time of the Tennessee game from 4:15 p.m. to 1 p.m., the NFL has provided the best compromise to resolve our scheduling conflict,” Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson said in a statement released by the league. “I want to thank Commissioner Goodell and Howard Katz for quickly responding to our request to accommodate our fans of Jewish faith.”
