The New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles are in the market for a running back in the draft. But the Cleveland Browns?
Georgia RB Knowshon Moreno has either visited or will visit the Browns, who hold the fifth overall pick in the April 25-26 draft, this week. Moreno also has visited or will visit with the Saints (No. 14 pick) and the Eagles (Nos. 21 and 28).
Of the teams that Moreno will spend time with this week, New Orleans is the only one without a solid starter. Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush are in place, but the release of Deuce McAllister has left a void, seemingly for a similarly built big back. Moreno (5-foot-11, 217 pounds) is more of a slasher, big-play back minus the blazing speed — like Edgerrin James.
The Browns and Eagles have starting veteran RBs Jamal Lewis and Brian Westbrook, respectively, but they need to infuse youth and depth to the position and eventually find a successor to the incumbent workhorses. Moreno and Ohio State’s Chris “Beanie” Wells are considered the top two running backs in the draft and possibly the only two who could be selected in the first round.
