Miles Austin won’t join the New York Jets after all, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Despite a recent visit from Austin, a restricted free-agent WR for the Dallas Cowboys, the Jets won’t give him an offer sheet, the Star-Ledger reported. Here’s more from the story:
- Austin, a former Monmouth University star, visited the Jets last Friday but left the building without signing an offer sheet. It was a bad sign. The Jets had told Austin that they would be preparing an offer sheet, but in the end they didn’t want to part with a second-round pick, which would’ve been the compensation owed to the Cowboys if they elected not to match.
Austin, 24, had 13 catches for 278 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games in 2008, the best season of his three-year NFL career.
Look for the Jets to target a wide receiver with one of their picks in the April 25 draft. The team has selection Nos. 17, 52, 76, 115, 193 and 228.
