NFL prospect Gilbert discusses YouTube pool trick

Jarron Gilbert, YouTube sensation?

Gilbert, a defensive end prospect out of San Jose State, has created a buzz because of a YouTube video in which he shows off his explosive athletic ability by jumping out of the shallow end of a pool onto the deck.

In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Gilbert talked about the pool trick, the video of which has received over 630,000 views:

“One day our strength coach said Adam Archuleta could jump out of a pool, and everybody was super amazed,” Gilbert said. “I went out there one day — it wasn’t that big a deal to me — and I just went and jumped out of the pool. I found out that I could do it, so I put it on film to make everybody else believe me.”

But Gilbert told the Star-Telegram that he aspires to be remembered for more than the pool stunt.

“Jumping out of the pool is cool and everything, but being a good player is a little more important than that,” Gilbert said.

In Steve Wyche‘s positional-overview analysis of the draft’s best defensive line prospects, he projects Gilbert to be selected between rounds 3 and 6 in the NFL Draft.
