Catching up with the week’s pro days

Here is a look at some pro days throughout the week at Portland State, Abilene Christian, Kentucky and Kansas.

Unfortunate occurrence at Texas Tech Pro Day

A moment of sadness overshadowed Texas Tech’s pro day. OT Rylan Reed started out the workout exceptionally well, measuring in at 6-foot-5 ½, 309 pounds. He then had 41 bench press reps — a tally that would have put him No. 1 among all athletes at the NFL Scouting Combine last month.

Fantasy spin: Rams release WR Holt

Torry Holt, once considered an elite wide receiver in fantasy football, has been released by the St. Louis Rams.

One of the league’s most consistent wideouts in his prime, Holt posted six consecutive seasons with 1,300-plus yards and scored double-digit touchdowns three times from 2003-2006. Numbers like that made him a surefire No. 1 fantasy wideout in all leagues.

Rams part ways with WR Holt

The St. Louis Rams have released veteran WR Torry Holt in a move that was expected –- and desired by Holt.

Keep an eye on Boston College LB Toal

One of the most interesting prospects at Boston College’s pro day was LB Brian Toal. At 6-0 1/4, 228 pounds, he probably doesn’t have the size to play linebacker at the pro level, but he is a good athlete.

Bucs, Bills in running for free-agent LB Crowell

Buffalo Bills free-agent LB Angelo Crowell has scheduled a Monday meeting with his former team to discuss re-joining the only franchise he’s played for in his six NFL seasons, according to a source close to Crowell.

Ravens’ Rolle says he’ll be released next week

Ravens starting cornerback Samari Rolle recently asked for his release, and apparently, he’ll get his wish.

Nebraska-Omaha Pro Day features TE Miller

This workout was done indoors on FieldTurf. Twenty teams, including Jaguars tight ends coach Mike Tice, who orchestrated the workout, were present.

Oregon’s Chung makes statement at pro day

Though he stood on most of his workout drill numbers from the combine, safety Patrick Chung was a standout in the position drills at the Oregon Pro Day.

Vikings’ Jackson says he’s ready to compete

Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson found out that the team had acquired QB Sage Rosenfels about four days before the team officially announced the trade. The Star-Tribune reports that when Jackson heard the news, he was unfazed and actually looks forward to a little healthy competition.

Bills, LT Peters not close to deal

Lost in the the excitement of Terrell Owens signing with the Bills is the fact that the team still hasn’t signed the man who will give Trent Edwards enough time to throw the ball in T.O.’s direction.

Nebraska’s Steinkuhler shows speed and strength

Twenty teams were represented to watch 16 prospects work out on FieldTurf. Carolina offensive line coach Dave Magazu and Miami offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo were in attendance.

Cardinals GM Graves: Team not trading Boldin

Cardinals general manager Rod Graves told the Arizona Republic that there was no change in Anquan Boldin‘s status, rebuking Internet reports that the team was “shopping” the wide receiver.

Green not bitter about Harrison hit, 1999 Rams season

You can’t look at Trent Green without thinking of Rodney Harrison and the tackle that knocked the quarterback out of the 1999 season and launched the storybook NFL career of Kurt Warner.

Titans want RB Johnson to see more touches

Chris Johnson was one of the more pleasant surprises in fantasy football last season, posting 43 receptions, 1,488 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns. Based on a recent report in the Nashville City Paper, he should improve on those numbers in 2009.
