The Chargers open conditioning workouts today and nearly every player is expected to attend. Injured LB Shawne Merriman has been a fixture at the Chargers training facility, but will miss Monday’s session, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The paper is reporting that Merriman should be back toward the end of the week. He is rehabilitating a major knee injury that sidelined him for the majority of the 2008 season, but told reporters that he looks and feels great.

RB Darren Sproles is also expected at the conditioning drills, despite not signing his franchise tender. But the running back is expected to miss the May minicamp.

“I know there are going to be some things that are limited, but I expect him to take part in most of (the offseason),” Chargers coach Norv Turner said. “You always want them there, you always want everyone there. But he does a great job of getting himself physically ready. … Darren will continue to do that.”
