Sanchez won’t get private workout with Lions

The Lions will not give Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez a private workout, as they will for Georgia’s Matthew Stafford — the guy the team has been linked to in mock drafts for weeks. But the team would like to control part of Sanchez’s pro day if he’s willing, according to the Detroit Free Press. He will if he wants to be the first overall selection of the draft and get the contract that comes with it.

“I’m sure his agent will be open to it,” coach Jim Schwartz said today at the NFL owners’ meetings. “Sometimes those things are too tightly controlled. Other times you have that opportunity.
“Say there’s a 10 m.p.h. breeze. Flip him around, make him throw into the wind, be able to see more of a particular type of throw. That kind of thing.”
