Favre could end up at Browns camp — as a guest

Former Jets QB Brett Favre could make an appearance at Browns camp this season as a guest of his former coach, Eric Mangini. Favre is still under contract with the Jets, but he could show up in Cleveland as an instructor for Browns QBs Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn, according to the New York Daily News:

“He might come out to training camp to visit,” Mangini said. “Maybe I will have him do the show team or just hang out.
“I don’t think it would be anything formal. It’s not like we are hiring him to run the scout team. I don’t think he would be interested in that. He would be more like a visitor. An open invite.”

Mangini also talked about the rumors that new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan asked to get out of his Browns contract so he could go work for his brother, Rex, with the Jets. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that it actually was the other way around — Rex asked the Browns to let Rob out of his contract.

“The reason I did it was because it would have been unique to have us together,” Rex said. “It was kind of a joke. We had Eric on the phone and we laughed about it.
“Did we expect Eric to do it? No. He and Rob are real close. My brother certainly didn’t ask out of his contract.”
