Looking at today’s release of Terrell Owens from all sides, we believed it important that his reaction to the decision made by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t lost in the mix.
Owens posted this brief statement on his official Web site on Thursday afternoon:
“I want to thank Jerry Jones, Coach Phillips and the Dallas Cowboys for the opportunity to be a member of the team for the past three years.
“A big thanks to the fans — you’ve been awesome! I look forward to the upcoming season and continuing to play in the NFL.
“I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the families of Marquis Cooper, Corey Smith and William Bleakley.”
NFL Network’s Scott Hanson is efforting to speak with Owens and/or his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, soon. Jones told Hanson earlier today that the sometimes disruptive behavior and outspoken nature of Owens was not a factor in the release — it was a “strategic decision.”
