Lost in all of the LaDainian Tomlinson turmoil in San Diego is Shawne Merriman and his rehabilitation from his knee injury. The loss of Merriman had a huge impact on the Chargers’ defense, which registered 42 sacks in 2007 but only 28 in 2008.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth will be one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason. Haynesworth, 27, has made a huge impact on the Tennessee Titans, who are 21-5 in games he has started the last two seasons and 1-4 in games in which he didn’t play. (He played in one game but didn’t start in 2007 — and the Titans won.) That should be enough to drive up his price.
