FB Richardson likely returning to Jets

The Jets’ battering-ram FB Tony Richardson helped RB Thomas Jones rack up an AFC-high 1,312 rushing yards and a franchise-record 13 touchdowns last season.
Now comes Richardson’s reward — a new contract, the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger reported:
- The Jets and veteran fullback Tony Richardson are closing in on a new contract and a deal is expected to be done before the start of free agency on Thursday, according to a person familiar with the club’s thinking. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal isn’t complete.
Richardson came to the Jets last season after spending two years with the Vikings and 11 years with the Chiefs. He hasn’t scored a touchdown in the last three seasons, leaving that to the running backs for whom he blocks.
