Flu doesn’t keep Penn State’s Williams from 40

Each story has a backstory. Penn State WR Derrick Williams‘ story is no different.

During Sunday’s combine, Williams was clocked in the 40-yard dash, unofficially, at 4.58 seconds. But Williams might have been better off not running.

For the past week, Williams has been fighting the flu and confined to his bed. His agent, Chafie Fields, recommended that Williams sit out this weekend’s combine, but Williams opted against the advice and did his best to perform. It did not work out anywhere near the way he had hoped.

“He’s just that much of a competitor and wanted to take advantage of the stage, even though he hasn’t worked out in almost two weeks,” a disappointed Fields said. “He can run a lot faster, and will run a lot faster.”
