Raiders release Wilson, Curry and Edwards

The Sacramento Bee is reporting that the Raiders have released safety Gibril Wilson, defensive end Kalimba Edwards and receiver Ronald Curry. The Raiders signed Wilson last season and he joins DeAngelo Hall as another high-priced defensive back who signed with Oakland last year but will not be on the roster in 2009.
Jason Jones reports that when Hall waived last year, he called Wilson. Wilson said he thought Hall called to say he’d heard Wilson was being cut.
Wilson’s release comes as somewhat of a surprise as he was second on the team with 129 tackles in 2009. The team signed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to a lucrative contract on Thursday.
The Raiders own the seventh overall pick in the NFL Draft.
