Indy? Let’s be honest. Not so gorgeous in February. But Lucas Oil Stadium already has proven itself as a perfect new home for the NFL Scouting Combine.
The combine has moved out of the RCA Dome, and we got our first look at the inside of Lucas Oil Stadium last night. (Is it the Luc? The LOS?) It’s big, it’s new, and it still has that new-stadium smell. The debate among the NFL.com staff was if Lucas Oil Stadium is bigger than University of Phoenix Stadium, the home of the Cardinals in Glendale, Ariz. The consensus is The Luc has it beat.
Two things about The Luc are apparent when you first set foot here. One, the light that enters in through the windows at each end of the stadium makes it so you could play a football game without the inside lights on. It’s that bright. Two, the atrium just inside the main entrance is unlike any other stadium.
The two days of press conferences that kick off the combine already have started this morning. Bills head coach Dick Jauron is at the podium now. Also scheduled to speak today are Jim Schwartz, Jim Caldwell, Mike Smith, Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert, Sean Payton, Tony Sparano, Jim Zorn and Tom Cable.
Also scheduled to be available today is what is known as Groups 1-3 of the combine — offensive linemen, tight ends and specialists. As the buzz gets going on this first day of the combine, we’ll have the latest.
