One franchise tag on K Shayne Graham caused a wide range of reactions in Cincinnati.
Without confirmation, WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh fell to his knees and thanked the heavens above.
RB Cedric Benson now has more options than he had.
But Graham didn’t sound too thrilled that a long-term deal wasn’t reached.
“The Bengals have tendered me as the franchise player for the upcoming 2009 season,” Graham said in a released statement. “I appreciate the Bengals’ recognition of my value to the team. I would have preferred to enter a long-term, market-value contract, either with the Bengals or through free agency.
“I will be committed to helping the Bengals win football games in the 2009 season. I truly appreciate the support of my teammates and the great fans of Cincinnati.”
