One week after firing defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast, the NFC champion Arizona Cardinals have found his replacement, according to KTAR 620 AM in Phoenix:
- Sports 620 KTAR sources learned that the Arizona Cardinals have decided to hire from within for their vacant defensive coordinator position, promoting linebackers coach Bill Davis.
- Coach Ken Whisenhunt moved quickly with the hire in the possibility that Davis would be up for other jobs, such as the defensive coordinator position with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Davis’ former co-worker, Todd Haley, left his position as the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator on Feb. 6 to become the Chiefs’ head coach.
Davis has experience as an NFL defensive coordinator, having served in that position with the San Francisco 49ers in 2005 and 2006. He joined the Cardinals as linebackers coach in 2007.
