Koenen signs franchise tender

Shortly after Atlanta slapped its franchise tag on punter Michael Koenen, he wasted no time signing it.

Koenen signed his $2.48 million franchise tender, making him the second franchise player to sign. The first was New England quarterback Matt Cassel.

Now, the first two players to be franchised each have signed. The third, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, was tagged Friday. The franchise running back number is $6.621 million. Jacobs and the Giants have had ongoing contract talks regarding a long-term extension. And just because the Giants tagged Jacobs on Friday doesn’t mean he still can’t sign a long-term deal. Both sides continue to work to get that done.
