Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has a host of issues facing the Lions, one of the most pressing being the quarterback position. More specifically, what he is going to do about pending free agents Jon Kitna and Daunte Culpepper.
Mayhew told Booth Newspapers that he is open to both quarterbacks returning.
- “We’re talking through that right now as we look at free agency and the draft. That’s an ongoing discussion we’re having and it’s probably the biggest personnel decision we’ll have to make this offseason — the quarterback position.”
Kitna played only four games for the Lions in 2008, and was placed on injured reserve in Week 5. Culpepper came out of retirement to start five games for the Lions.
Mayhew also said that if K Jason Hanson hasn’t signed a contract by Feb. 19, he will be hit with the franchise tag.
