Favre’s ironman streak figures to stand for a while

Now that Brett Favre‘s career and consecutive regular-season start streak of 269 games is over, let the clock start on any player who can catch him.

The closest quarterback is Peyton Manning, who has started 176 consecutive games in the regular season. Manning now needs 94 more consecutive starts to catch Favre and could do it in the 14th game of the 2014 season — if there is no work stoppage in the 2011 season.

It’s a mighty big if, and it provides a hint of how many marks could be affected. But it is not just Peyton that is an ironman; so is his younger brother, Eli, who has started 71 consecutive games.

Here is a look at the quarterbacks with the most consecutive starts:

Players (Number of consecutive starts)
Brett Favre (269)
Peyton Manning (176)
Eli Manning (71)
Drew Brees (64)
Philip Rivers (48 )
Jay Cutler (37)
