Texans save some green by releasing some

It’s always about the green, especially in Houston.
When the Texans released RB Ahman Green and LB Morlon Greenwood on Tuesday, they saved themselves, fittingly, some green.
Cutting Green saves the Texans $3.93 million against the 2009 salary cap, and cutting Greenwood saves an additional $4.87 million against the cap. Together, Green and Greenwood will save the Texans a whopping $8.8 million against the cap — money that could be used to signed prospective free-agent CB Dunta Robinson. Now that Green and Greenwood are gone, the savings kick in for Houston.
