The Tennessean is reporting that the Titans will promote secondary coach Chuck Cecil to defensive coordinator. Cecil has already secured an endorsement from cornerback Cortland Finnegan:
- “I think he’ll do great,” Finnegan said. “He knows the defense and knows the game of football, has played the game of football. He is a great fit. The way he played the game is the way we try and play the game as a secondary. I don’t think we’ll miss a beat.”
The hard-hitting Cecil played seven seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers (1988-92), Phoenix Cardinals (1993) and Houston Oilers (1995), earning a spot in the Pro Bowl with the Packers in 1992. Over the course of his career, Cecil started 61 games and had 16 interceptions before it was cut short due to injuries. He started his coaching career with the Titans in 2001.
